Restoring a Lake in Devon: Reed Removal, Lily Removal & Silt Removal with the Truxor Machine

At Simply Aquatic, we were recently called out to a lake in Devon that had become almost unusable due to years of overgrowth and neglect. The water was heavily choked with dense reed beds, an over-abundance of lilies, and a significant build-up of silt. Left unmanaged, this not only spoiled the appearance of the lake but also posed the risk of sections drying up completely.

The Challenge

Our client’s lake was suffering from three common issues:

  • Reed growth spreading aggressively across the surface.

  • Lilies forming thick mats that restricted open water.

  • A deep layer of silt that had accumulated over time, reducing depth and water quality.

Combined, these problems left very little open water, making the lake unattractive and ecologically unbalanced.

The Solution

After conducting a thorough site survey, we identified the best access routes and safe deposit locations for the removed material. To minimise any disruption to the surrounding land, we used track mats and a low ground pressure tracked dumper, ensuring the worksite remained in good order throughout.

The real game-changer for this project was our Truxor machine – a versatile amphibious tool designed specifically for aquatic management. With it, we carried out:

  • Reed removal to clear overgrown sections.

  • Lily removal to restore open water areas.

  • Silt removal to return the lake to its intended depth.

The Truxor’s efficiency meant we could tackle all three issues effectively in one operation, delivering results quickly and cleanly.

The Results

The transformation was immediate. With the reeds and lilies cleared, and the silt significantly reduced, the lake now has more open water and improved depth. This not only restores its natural beauty but also ensures a healthier aquatic environment for years to come.

Most importantly, our client can once again enjoy their lake, confident that the risk of it drying out has been resolved.
